Scoular has acquired a fish-processing facility in Burlington, Washington, U.S.A. to augment its pet food production in the United States.
The Omaha, Nebraska, U.S.A.-based agribusiness conglomerate, which had USD 9 billion (EUR ) in sales in 2022, announced the acquisition of the former Northwest Farm Food Cooperative frozen fish processing facility on 22 May. The facility upcycles fish trimmings by processing them into frozen fish ingredients for pet food manufacturers, according to a Scoular press release.
“We’re excited to welcome the Burlington employees to the Scoular team and look forward to serving existing and new pet food customers as we grow this business,” Scoular Vice President for High Nutritional Value Proteins Chad Gauger said.
Scoular said the acquisition enhances its pet food ingredient offerings, which includes salmon, tuna, sole, cod, and hake.
“Scoular has been working directly with Northwest Farm Food for many years, and they are a well-respected producer of frozen fish ingredients for pet food,” Scoular Frozen Ingredient Commercial Leader Justin Stadden said. “We are excited to continue to build on this reputation and for the opportunity to bring new products to the pet food industry.”
In November 2022, Scoular partnered on a joint venture with Bellingham, Washington-based Bornstein Seafoods and Astoria, Washington-based Da Yang Seafoods to open a USD 17.5 million (EUR 16.9 million) fishmeal processing facility in Warrenton, Oregon, U.S.A. Scoular said its new acquisition complements its joint venture.
“Both facilities strengthen Scoular’s assets and capabilities to serve pet food customers with a sustainable supply of high-quality fish ingredients year-round,” it said.
