UK seafood industry stakeholders have collaborated within the Sustainable Seafood Coalition (SSC) since 2011, setting harmonized voluntary standards for responsible sourcing and environmental claims. This has meant agreeing to cross-sector approaches to certification, FIPs, risk assessments and labeling practices, all of which have been codified in the SSC Codes of Conduct.

This session explores these agreements, their genesis, and their implications, before looking ahead to the future of industry-led improvement efforts. Pre-competitive collaboration platforms like the SSC are now looking to joint advocacy initiatives as crucial levers in the next generation of industry leadership. Participants hear industry and NGO perspectives on the role of pre-competitive collaboration, and explore the changing strategies that stakeholders can deploy at each stage of market transformation.

This presentation was a part of the Seafood2030 Virtual Sustainability Forum | Aligning Industry and Government Sustainability Efforts, which took place from 9-10 September 2020.  For more information on Seafood2030 and/or to access additional program content, visit SeafoodSource.com/Seafood2030.
