Largest-ever Seafood Expo Asia hosting first Seafood Excellence Asia Awards and focused conference program

A demonstration at Seafood Expo Asia 2022

The 11th edition of Seafood Expo Asia, running from 11 to 13 September at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore, is bringing back its conference program and hosting the Seafood Excellence Asia Awards – recognizing the best new seafood products represented at the expo – for the first time.

The latest edition of Seafood Expo Asia will be the largest in the exhibition’s history, hosting more than 350 exhibitors from 40 countries at the three-day event. The event is the second time Seafood Expo Asia will take place in Singapore after a live in-person event in 2022.

“Singapore is a longstanding trading hub within the Asia Pacific region. This strategic location allows the event to bring together experts from across the seafood sector to address industry challenges,” Diversified Communications Vice President of Seafood Wynter Courmont said in a release.

Throughout the expo, event organizer Diversified Communications is hosting a series of workshops and roundtables in a comprehensive conference program covering topics from seafood consumption trends in Asia to supply chain sustainability and innovation. [Editor's note: Diversified Communications also owns and operates SeafoodSource].

Included in the conference program is a session on how AI may change seafood processing, hosted by This Fish CEO and Co-Founder Eric Enno Tamm. Tamm will discuss how AI, machine learning, computer vision, and more are already impacting and disrupting the seafood industry – and offer predictions on what the future could bring.

Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Marketing Manager for Southeast Asia Joey Goh and MSC Commercial Communication Officer Usmawati Anggita will also host a panel discussing the seafood consumption trends in Asia, using independent survey data from GlobeScan.

“The lineup will highlight key industry topics across Asia, including innovative seafood trends, AI's role in seafood processing, sustainability in seafood, aquaculture advancements, and shifting consumption patterns,” the show organizer said.

The expo will also feature a number of special events, including an oyster challenge pitting skilled chefs against each other in a head-to-head competition; a culinary demonstration hosted by chef Flavio Morganti of Spain reviewing how to make the most of products from Spain’s coastal haven of Galicia; and a wide range of product tastings at the expo’s Tasty Kitchen.

Seafood Expo Asia will also feature the first-ever Seafood Excellence Asia, an expansion of the Seafood Excellence program featured at Seafood Expo Global and Seafood Expo North America. The awards program will feature key buyers tasting and evaluating the most innovative products submitted to the awards competition, with three winners announced on the second morning of the event, Tuesday, 12 September in the retail and hotel, restaurant, and catering (HORECA) categories.

The events will all take place at the expo’s new location in an expanded exhibit hall at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, with an exhibit floor more than 84 percent larger than last year.

“We're excited to offer attendees a glimpse into the forefront of Asia's seafood landscape,” Courmont said.
