Several U.S. retailers are promoting seafood deals ahead of the country’s Independence Day holiday on 4 July.
The holiday is looking to be more profitable for grocery stores than restaurants, according to Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.-based data firm Numerator, as many people are planning to cook at home with family and friends.
The firm’s Q2 2024 Holiday Preview said 83 percent of consumers plan to purchase food for the holiday, 58 percent of Americans said they will gather with family and friends, 56 percent of consumers said they plan to grill for Independence Day, 31 percent will attend a celebration, 26 percent will cook or bake at home, and 18 percent are hosting others at their home.
"From backyard barbecues to hometown parades and firework displays, nothing brings our country together like the Fourth of July," Kroger Group Vice President of Fresh Merchandising Dan De La Rosa said in a press release. “We are grateful to play a part in these celebrations with everyday low prices and special savings on all the holiday staples America's families need to honor Independence Day."
The Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A.-based supermarket giant is promoting extra large EZ peel shrimp for USD 6.99 (EUR 6.52) per pound and is also offering frozen Kroger Crunch Butterfly Shrimp for USD 9.99 (EUR 9.32) per 2-pound package.
Kroger is also offering recipes for grilling along with purchases customers make, including Shrimp and Vegetable Kebabs, Sweet and Spicy Grilled Pork Chops, and Grilled Lime Chicken with Mango Salsa.
Fullerton, California, U.S.A.-based Vons, owned by the Albertsons chain of retail stores, is also promoting seafood for grilling during the holiday, including 5-ounce ahi tuna portions for USD 5.00 (EUR 4.66) each and fresh wild salmon fillets for USD 19.99 (EUR 18.63) per pound.
Scarborough, Maine, U.S.A.-based Hannaford is offering shoppers USD 5.00 (EUR 4.66) off its new lobster roll made with North Atlantic lobster meat, promoting them for USD 9.99 (EUR 9.32) each. It is also promoting its Hannaford cooked medium cocktail shrimp for USD 5.99 (EUR 5.60) per 16-ounce package and Boss Claw crab meat for USD 9.99 (EUR 9.32) per 8-ounce package.
