Asian grocery retailer T&T Supermarket is expanding from Canada to the U.S. with three planned stores.
Richmond, British Columbia, Canada-based T&T, which operates more than 33 stores in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec, will open its first U.S. store in San Jose, California, in the fall of 2025. It also previously announced two stores in the state of Washington, specifically in Bellevue and Lynnwood in northern Seattle.
The 55,000-square-foot San Jose store, located in the Westgate Center, is a former Walmart location, the retailer said.
T&T is known for a wide selection of authentic Asian products, fresh produce, a full-service meat counter, live seafood tanks, and an in-store prepared foods program, according to the company.
Some of the numerous seafood products sold at T&T include live spot prawns, live Dungeness crab, and live green bass, along with frozen SKUs from brands such as AquaStar, Zoneco, and 3Fish. T&T private-label products, such as frozen assorted fish balls and imitation crab sticks, are also offered at a value.
The San Jose location will include a BBQ counter, noodle station, dim sum and street food section, hot food bar, and a made-to-order Chinese crepe station.
"We aim to create a destination. It’s a place for discovery, innovation, and bringing people together through food,” T&T CEO Tina Lee said. "We want to evolve our grocery store beyond the functional; we want to be the place where people want to go, not just need to go. We can't wait to share that with the people of the Bay Area.”
